Look at the bamboo before use

Check the chasen for broken tips or major cracks. Do not press it down while dry; gently moisten the tips in the water used to warm the bowl.

Do not press too hard against the bowl

Move the whisk back and forth from the wrist. Repeatedly scraping the bottom places stress on both whisk and bowl.

Rinse gently without detergent

After use, rinse matcha away with water. Check between the tines and shake off moisture without rubbing hard with cloth.

Restore the shape and dry fully

Dry in a well-ventilated place and never seal it while damp. If using a whisk holder, follow its intended use and keep it clean.

A chasen is a consumable bamboo utensil. If damage or broken tips are noticeable, replace it rather than forcing continued use.
